I used to tease my growing family with "It's written right here in the Parent's Handbood (handling an invisible volume): . . ." at which the room would be alive with giggles and most of the time an unhappy situation was defused. It helped with requests to take out the trash or made everybody feel better when "no" had to be said. Often, however, the key to keeping order in a home full of exuberant kids is to simply listen. Kids have a keen sense of fairness! I remember several times coming in to find 2 or 3 children sitting indoors on the couch, quitely reading or just sitting with a stuffed animal when it was beautiful outside. When I asked why they weren't out playing, they replied "Don't you remember, Mom? You put us on restriction!" Hmm. . .and their sense of fairness made the restriction, which was never handed out undeservedly, palatable enough to warrant volunteer compliance. These moments made all the frustration of parenting 5 children worth every bit-and my heart still reaches out to love them in those moments when things could have been much more difficult. If I had violated their sense of fairness, things would have been much more difficult! Here are some very real parent's handbooks, written by those who know it best- parents themselves! ![]() Favorite Animals in Tapestry Counted Cross Stitch Patterns and Kits
