Everything old is new again! Garage sales and antique shops are more popular than ever, and the trend to shabby chic makes those wonderful furniture finds, often one of a kind, even more fun and valuable. Refinishing is easy, but I have an antique table from my mother's estate that I've decided to leave in it's distressed state. Somehow, the rustic look adds an element of stability to the eclectic decor. Here is a tip for reupholstering: Take notes when disassembling a couch or chair, listing the steps taken to remove sections of old fabric and hardware. Removing staples is by far the most difficult part, and once you have a piece reduced to it's frame the hard part is done. To finish, replace supportive cushioning, tack strips, fabric, etc, backwards up the list. Voila! Have fun finding and restoring your treasures-here are some books and items to help in the search.
