"There's nothing wrong with being a. . ." If you're happiest doing hands-on tasks and not at all excited about the prospect of managing other people, a vocational education and certification may be the way to go. I have a nephew who is in a highly technical field and was just given a promotion. He felt honored, but hates the position! He would rather be on the floor turning bolts than in an office filling out paperwork. Any job these days requires some kind of education and certification, from auto mechanics - who now have to attend college classes to stay abreast of the computer systems in new cars - to medical assistants and everything in between. And we all know that plumbers make a lot of money! (compensation for the embarassment of the proverbial butt crack, I suppose. . .) Anyway, here are some great books and resources to get you started thinking about that alternate career.
