Emergency Substitutes for Sugar and Other Sweeteners
The following products are interchangeable in the same amounts, and will affect the flavor of your baking or cooking: Honey Molasses Corn Syrup (dark or light) Cane Syrup Maple Syrup (use 3/4 the amount called for since it is thinner) If using syrup, honey or molasses instead of granulated sugar, use 3/4 the amount called for and reduce the liquid in the recipe by 1/4 cup for each cup of sugar in the recipe. If using sugar for a syrup, make a syrup as follows: Sugar Syrup: 1 cup water 2 cups granulated sugar or brown sugar Simmer until a syrup is formed.
