Interior Decorating and Living Room Furniture

I've done a lot of reupholstery over the years. Each piece of furniture is unique - but upholstering is not difficult. To begin, disassemble the chair or sofa you are going to re-cover. Take notes step by step, and follow those notes from the last step up to reassemble the piece with new fabric and fastenings. You may need to re-string a coil or two, whatever seems necessary after removing the old cover. A good electric stapler is a must, and depending on the style of your furniture you may want to use upholstery tacks for decoration. There are so many styles of upholstery, using edge cording and kick pleats, etc. With a little imagination you can add some embellishment and make the finished piece uniquely your own. Most reupholstery is simply a matter of removing heavy fabric, using the old fabric to cut a new piece, and replacing the fabric with the same methods used to construct the furniture when it was new. Stitching usually is minimal with straight lines. Here are books and products to help in your redecorating. ![]() ![]() ![]()
